Haugesund is the best city in Norway! We got the sildajazz and the Filmfestival which attract alot of people. But on the downside there is a lot of drugs and violence here as well... The beer is usually around 6 gbp, or 60-65 norwegian kroner for a 0,5 liter beer.

there are 4 bars on gronland street which are "cheap". having said that i was only in one of them (stargate). its a student area. another bar with reasonable prices was evergreens which is on pilestradt. if you avoid the bars/cafes on johansgate you may be able to find others with acceptable prices.

As one other mentioned above, there are nice prices if you avoid the places along the Karl Johan street. I am bad with names, but ask the locals in the Gronland area, about pubs with cheap beer, and you can get a pint for less than 4 quid (40 NOK).

Beer is very often sold at 0.4l. And sometimes at 0.5l and 0.6l. For a cheap n cheerful night try Waldermar's on thursdays - £2.80 for 0.4l, a nice mix of people, good food, show the footy, and pretty ladies.

Sandefjord is a beautiful coastal town two hours south of Oslo. The pints are really tasty by the pier on a hot summers day, a 0,33 bottle would be about £6 in a nightclub. If you go to a restaurant it would be half litre (not a pint) for about the same amount £6-7.

Stavanger has been renovated very well with cobblestones and statues but unfortunetely it is littered with a spate of recent ugly appartment blocks. Sadly, the city is gradually destroying itself.

Lervig pilsner is a local which is light and slightly malty. Stavanger like the rest of Norway is hugely expensive. The old commodore hotel has been pulled down and replaced with an ugly high rise appartment block where residents can enjoy the view at everyone elses expense. Money talks.

You get the cheapest pint in a place called "Cirkus". A bit small, but nice and always crowdy. Also at "Mormor's" it's 4,25 Euro for a pint. But many places are more expencive (5-6 Euro), and even more in the weekends (7-8 Euro). Nice town to drink beer in.

Remember that you cannot, by law, sell beer cheap in Norway (happy hour, loss leader, promo or 2 for 1 are illegal). Most of the price is tax. Beware of asking for "a beer" and getting a 0,33 litre baby beer. Rip off.
