Rockwells and Heroes tend to be the best but a lack of decent live music Heroes band is the best. Price of a beer is cheaper in Abu Dhabi and look out for the places with character. Casa Goa on hamdan street is great for a curry and cheapish beer (kingfisher) and has an interesting vibe about it.

Major hotels can be up to 5-6GBP, about 11-12USD, per pint. Complete rip off. They allow beer but charge you a fortune for it. Dubai 7s rugby tournament is even worse. 6USD/3GBP per 330ml can of Heineken. For a real ale drinker like me, this is criminal!

For the cheapest beer all night go to the George and Dragon in the Ambassadore Hotel. Stella and Carling currently 18Dhms a pint. A good pub too with a mixed crowd of locals and Western/Asian expats.

Dubai is now an expensive place to drink there are one or two bars not attatched to hotels where beer is cheaper but even here you are looking at aed 30 a pint of lager (gbp 5.60) guiness aed 35 (gbp 6.54) and wait for it a bottle of magners aed 42 (gbp 7.85). Even London now is about 40 percent cheaper. Look for happy hour deals or dining deals that include booze.

The adverse £/$ rate has meant a substancial increase in the cost of beer locally. Typically a Heineken will cost you anything from 28 - 36 dirham depending where you drink.. @ just 5 dirham to the pound we are talking anywhere from 6 - 7 pounds per pint!

The recession has not impacted prices, still between AED 30-35 a pint in most bars. Look for happy hour deals early in the evening and also all you can eat drink deals, spice island is one of the best.

Try Swiss Belhotel in Al Mina Rd next to Capitol Hotel. The bar is called Liquid Lounge. Dhs 32 for 2 pints during happy hr. Stella / Fosters. Not much happening there admittedly, but its clean and they have sport on the big TVs. Outside of happy hour however, they charge Dhs 32 for ONE pint, so happy hour is really the key here.

Load of shit. About a fiver for a beer, not necessarily a pint. There's about 2 places where you can drink that aren't hotels. Also, pretty disgusting city with a lot of uninteresting career mad yuppies. I hope that having suffered two weeks there others might avoid such a shitty time after this and then maybe it wasn't all for nothing.
