Stayed in Kranjska Gora for a week. Prices very good. Main reason for going to Slovenia was for hiking in the Alps. Nice walking around this town. Buses are available to take you further afield and the terminus is a short walk from the town centre. I quite liked this area and a good omen from our first walk was the eagles which soared over a dry lake-bed near the town. We spent a second week near Lake Bed. Picture post card stuff. A little to 'touristy' for my liking. Most of the walks are on roads also used by motor traffic. This applies to Tranjska but not to the same extent. On our final day we took a bus to Bihonska (I think)Lake, about a 30 minute drive, and had a great walk to a water fall. At the end of a trail hundreds of steps have to be climbed to reach the falls. Well worth a visit. The area around this lake, which is similar in size to Bled and to the south east of Bled, offers very good walking. Unfortunately we found it so late on our visit. We found the food and the drink top notch, the people nice. Prices good (dear in hotels though). And Ljubljana ( my spelling) a jewel.

I lived there 6 years, so hopefully know what I am talking about. First, there are 2 widely distributed Slovene producers: Union and Lasko (pronounced Lashko). The common brands are Union and Zlatorog, but everyone just says Lasko, not Zlatorog. Union is made in Ljubljana, using the same well as the city uses for its tap water. This is not a good thing. I drank a lot of tap water there, but I know it does not test well against other Euro cities. Stick with the much better tasting Lasko. Finally, don't miss Kratochwill, a brew pub with three locations. The one in center and the one in the BTC mall area are great. They have lager, dark (I enjoy them mixed half / half) and weiss beer (try saying psheneechno pivo!) If you have transportation to roam outside the city, ask for directions to Adam Ravbar brewpub.
