| Born in 1932 in the old Lourenço Marques, Laurentina’s history started way before, in the beginning of the 20th century, with Cretikos ambition, a Greek who started to sell water on a wagon in the upper area of the capital city. In 1916, Cretikos, realizing the lack of ice to preserve fish, opens the ice and mineral water factory, Vitória. It was on this factory that was produced the first Mozambican beer, a Laurentina Clara, based on a European recipe and according to high quality international standards.
The 50’s and 60’s were of great expansion for the brand: it joined Mac-Mahon’s factory (known as 2M) to become the Fábrica de Cervejas Reunidas and won, consecutively, six gold medals in Monde Selection in Brussels, confirming the international quality of its flavour. After Mozambique’s independence, the factory was nationalized and named SOGER and only in 1997 was acquired by a group of French interests, BGI-Castel, and by the Irish Guiness.
