The beer here is more expensive then I thought. Balikpapan is an oil and gas port with an expat community, hence the higher prices. Hotels have international branded beers (Heineken and Corona to name a couple) Expect to pay 40,000 rupiahs upwards. 12,000 approx = £1. The local beers are Bintang and Ankar, you would again pay over 40000 rupiah in a hotel bar. There is a couple of supermarkets on the main drag that sell beer. Heineken 0.3 litre can = 16,000, Ankar = 14,000 and Bintang = 13,000. If you feel the desire to take some back to the hotel. Only certain supermarkets sell beer, so I would ask where at the hotel reception.

Beer Bintang! As somebody from bavaria i can tell that this beer is better than you might think :) price depends on where you buy it and if in resto or not.. price in Resto can get up to 2 Euro in very nice places.. u can heave cheaper beer.. but the style of Bandung restos... hard to find somewhere else...
