Small local bar Rezavej Cerv in Srbska 5 in Brno (capacity about 50+ people) has 5 different beers and a very nice atmosphere. Czech beer ordering is based on a grade (10°-14°). Plzen best, StaroBrno's Baron Trenk very good - both graded 14°. I'm foreign but one of the rare places where home atmosphere dominates.

Fantastic City where alot of the bars are "brew pubs". Starobrno is the beer of choice. Winter revolves around the City square and Summer around two massive lakes on the fringes of the city easily accessable by tram. Great little restaurants/bars along the banks of these lakes serving delicious food and freezing cold beer! This City puts Prague in the shade and the women are stunning too!!! (but don't tell anyone or they'll all come and never leave!). Brian - Ireland

In supermarkets you can buy VERY cheap beer, brands like Ambrosius, Bernard, Otakar or Mestan, its quite drinkable but its not good beer and they cant be compared with beer brands like Pilsner, Gambrinus, Radegast or Kozel. But for prices around 0.5 EUR u can buy good beers at supermarkets.. Czech republic is simply beer country ! !!everything is 0.5L i think u cant buy less beer in czech republic and i know why.. average count of beers drinked by czech men in 1 hour at pub is 4 (4*0,5>2L) and i saw man drinked 12 beers in that hour .. pretty crazy

If you want to live in a Metropole you can also expect to pay the prices. To pay less for drinks and food in Prague, don't go to the touristic center. Walk for a couple of minutes out of the center and you'll find a lot of cheap bars and restaurants. I live in Pardubice and there you pay for meals and drinks 50% of the normal prices. A pizza cost 5 Euro's, a beer about 1 Euro for half a liter. If you go for local specialities like bread with saucage and mustard, you pay 2 Euro's.

I've lived in Prague for 5 years now (originally I'm from Chicago). When I first moved here and the dollar was strong (remember when the $ wasn't so weak and afraid?) beer was about a $1 a pint. Now with our crumbling economy (go Bush, go!) we're looking at $1.66 a pint, pretty consistently if drink in the multitude of places where all the Czechs drink and stay away from the touristy places where beer is around $2.33 a pint. In Prague Feb 2010, great city, stayed just off old town sq found several bars just yards from the sq with prices between 28kc - 39kc for a 0.5l (£1-£1.35). Found it more expensive castle side of river 55kc-70kc for 0.5l, in castle 60kc for 0.33l and 75kc-95kc for 0.5l. Museum in Wenceslas sq had a reasonably priced cafe/bar. I paid less than 15kc for a 0.5l litre bottle from a mini supermarket close to old sq and 3kc back on the bottle if you could be bothered taking it back. Yes it was 145kc (£5.25) for a 0.5l in the airport, but you could get it for 50kc-70kc in a non smoking area. Great city for beer lovers you can eat and drink very reasonably, if you do have to drink in one of the tourist traps remember it's only what you might pay in a high street pub in Britain.
