This site ibc completely out of date a pint of beer in Paddy's Bar in Roppongi Tokyo will now cost 7.5GBP

Anywhere...
Look for a place that does "nomihodai". That means all-you-can-drink, and it can start at 1800yen for 2 hours. Best izakaya "Za-Watami". Worst: "Shirokiya".

conbibi
yeah got it for 40p yipeeeee

Conbini
Conbini beer is hella cheap, nothing like the crazies above.

Conbini
Regular light lager beer is about Y300 per 500 ml. There are other "beer-like" alcoholic drinks that cost less, but they aren't really beer so they don't count.

Fukuoka
Japan is the best place for NOMI HOUDAI. All you can drink. You can do an ALL YOU CAN SING and ALL YOU CAN DRINK at Karaoke for about 10bucks an hour.

Japan
Recommend Yebisu beer - not available everywhere, but is in the Yoronotaki chain. Kind of an English bitter taste with the consistency of a good pilsner.

Kobe
Typical area price for a proper pint of imported ale.

Kobe
A pint (chu size)of national brand lager is about 500-700 yen at most places

Misawa
You can get pints at a local bar called "My Place"

Nagoya
In hotel restaurant in Nagoya April 2007

Narita Airport
OK, it may not be as fancy as Changi or Schiphol, but good ol' Narita Airport must be the only airport in the world that features a convenience store (Lawson's) with good ol' no-nonsense convenience store prices for beer (around USD$2.20 for a 350-ml can). Awesome. (Narita also has a lot of other amenities such as McDonalds and Starbucks that offer their products at the standard prices.)

Okinawa
In a normal bar, you can find a pint from around $5.00-$10.00 Yes, you can get them cheaper during "happy hour" and at specials. And, you could pay a lot more depending where you are at ;)

okinawa
the going rate out here is about 6 us dollars a beer.

Osaka
To be honest your guide is completely inaccurate. I have been living in Japan for five years and I have never paid 1.47 in Osaka. Yes you can get a beer for 3.11 as suggested in lonely planet but it sure as hell aint a pint. You get approximately a half pint glass and a third of that is head! making the true price for a full pint more like 9 pounds. The only places that sell pints are foreign (eg Irish) bars and the price is usually 800 yen hence my quote above. Also I am guessing but conbini means convenience store eg 7-eleven or corner shop in England. There you can buy 'fake' beer for 220 yen - 1.10 pounds or real beer for 300 yen - 1.50 pounds. Yes you can buy a beer for 150 yen - 75p but a) Its fake beer and b) Its 330ml. Perhaps the users of your website don't know what a pint is. (esp as you have prices in foreign currencies). At present I have little faith in the accuracy of your website.

Osaka - further comment
I agree with the comment above. On the plus side, it should however be noted that there is basically zero variation in the retail price of beer (ie beer bought in a shop rather than a bar). Supermarkets and 24-hour convenience stores charge exactly the same. A deep discounter might knock off 5% or 10% off at the very most. And beer (and all alcohol) is widely available 24-7-365. Awesome. Japan is also the only country in the world with beer vending machines. (Although they have been gradually phasing them out in recent years.)

Sapporo
Cheap malt stuff for as low as a buck, top end at around 4 in shops. Drinking out $5.00

Sendai
cast Kirin

Sendai
0.66l Asahi with silver label in bottle... good beer

Tokyo
Best Beer Bar: Bakusyu Club Popeye, 2-18-7 Ryogoku, Sumida-ku, Tokyo

Tokyo
Carton of beer? Looking at about 100yen per beer.

Tokyo
went over for the world cup....absolutley crap for beer, the give ya a glass, not a pint, and the charge ya over seven euros for it, it gets worse, if ya finish yer beer, they refill it and then charge ya again even if ya dont wanna get ripped off.so in order to leave without gettin roasted,ya gotta leave some of yer beer behind, wat a waste!! never tasted piss but i this was probablt the next thing to it!

Tokyo
A price of a pint of beer at a bar in Tokyo is almost always Y800 or more.

Tokyo
Chu-jokki glasses are smaller than pint.

tokyo
typical beer at a crap izakaya

Tokyo
The Japanese love to add lots of head to the beer.

Tokyo
If you go to happy hour you can get beeds for 500-600 yen, about 2.50 to 3 quid although these are not normally a pint but a middle size! after happy hour expect to pay upto 1000yen a beer, thats five british pounds! Not Cheap

Tokyo
Roppongi = western, bars are about 800Y per pint, flip top grolsch 1000Y, hoegarden 750ml 1400Y, late bars and nightclubs same price, back alleys always about 400-600Y Shinjuku = down the side streets, nice japan beer about 300Y for bottles of asahi, etc Locals pay about 200Y upwards, tourist and english/irish bars usually about 700-800Y. find the western workers, they know the cheap 200Y happy hours and haunts i went last year (2008) when it was 200Y = pound so cheap. be quite expensive now i imagine

tokyo
900 yen or about 9 us dollars in shibuya or roppongi.

Tokyo and Japan
watch out for the local brews, most contain a chemical that helps to ferment the beer faster, but it gives you one hell of a hangover (even aft 2 or 3 cans)

Yokohama
For this to be more accurate, it should be more controlled. A certain beer for example. Like Guinness or Bud that is available almost every bloody where (even N Korea?). Different beers vary in price in the same country. Perhaps the main lager of choice for that coutnry would be abetter indicator. In Japan, expect to pay anything from 1400yen (about 7 pounds) for a pint of craft beer (e.g. check out UshiTora prices) or an imported ale to about 500yen (2pounds fifty) for a glass jug (jockie) of about 350ml of nasty cheap lager and 100ml of head. The cheapest countries for beer often have a matching taste level. Appreciate the effort here, though. Happy hunting, guys. Chuwy.
